Fun and Friendship at School
I spent an exciting hour at the Fun and Friendship after school activity session at Grange Primary School on Tuesday, 8th October. The theme was ‘The Five Senses’ and the activities had a distinct autumn feel. We began with the song ‘My Lighthouse’. The children managed both the actions and the singing, which was more than I could do. Annette gave us a lovely little talk before we all separated into activity tables on the theme of the senses. Finally, we closed with a group discussion and prayers.
All of the children worked on each of the activities in turn, so they all went home with bags brimming with their craft work: leaf artwork, shakers and more importantly, their decorated gingerbread men. I was glad to see that some of the children followed my own philosophy of the more icing you put on the biscuit then the more icing you get to eat later.
The session was busy and fun. The children were charming and entertaining. Annette gave a thought provoking talk which engaged the children, and she brought a candle to light. The activities were well organised by Gill, I swear she said she buys her craft supplies on her holidays. There were lots of helpers, so that none of us were overwhelmed and the time flew joyously by. I’d like to give a special thank you to Fiona, who cleared up all the tiny seeds we had spilt within seconds of us finishing – where were you hiding that brush and shovel? We were made incredibly welcome by all of the school staff. And I walked home, happily humming ‘My Lighthouse’ to myself (without the actions) and grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
There’s only one thing more to say – please can I come again?
